Japan is moving further along to legalizing casinos on its mainland with most of the major casino operators now scouting the country for preferred destinations to build resorts.
Las Vegas Sands, Caesars, MGM, SJM and Melco Crown are all sending representatives to the country to review their options once the country passes legislation allowing for casinos to enter the country. Many industry veterans were of the mind that the state who managed to be first out of the gate would enjoy a first-to-market status that would allow it to become the hub of U.S. online gambling. The theory was that other states would pattern or copy that first state’s legislative and licensing efforts and be inclined to accept whatever compact stipulations the first state had cooked up.

It was only a matter of time before Hollywood got wind of online poker and casino operators and decided to glamourise the industry in their own special way. Although only the trailer is doing the rounds, the new up and coming film entitled ‘Runner, Runner’ with Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake looks set to tell a cautionary tale about an industry that is worth billions. For the purposes of entertainment, the plot of this film will revolve around Timberlake’s attempt to pay his college tuition with online poker winnings, only to have the funds withheld by the nefarious Affleck who runs his poker operation on the island of Costa Rica.
