The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), has introduced abill [PDF] that directly attacks the business model of "patent trolls." The bill has a real chance at passing, with wide backing from leadership in both parties.
The proposal integrates most of the ideas from earlier patent reform bills introduced by Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and John Cornyn (R-TX), as well as the SHIELD Act introduced by Reps. Pete DeFazio (D-OR) and Jason Chaffetz (R-UT). DeFazio and Chaffetz are co-sponsors, along with several other House members.

MGT Capital Investments, Inc. (NYSE MKT: MGT) announced today that it has received an Order from the Honorable Judge Reeves of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi that denied the Motion to Dismiss filed by defendants WMS Gaming, Inc. and Aruze Gaming America, Inc. with respect to MGT's claims of direct patent infringement.  In addition, the Court denied the defendants' Motion to Change Venue.
Robert Ladd, MGT's Chief Executive Officer stated, "We are very pleased with today's decision by the Court, as it represents a major milestone for our damage claims at trial in Mississippi."

Geolocation Service Outage Disrupts Online Poker in Nevada
Both Nevada regulated sites WSOP.com and Ultimate Pokersuffered geolocation outages on October 21 and 23 as AT&T performed “network infrastructure maintenance.”
The Nevada sites utilize mobile phone location tracking as part of their required geolocation strategy to limit play to those within the state borders.
Affected players received pop-up messages explaining that their location could not be verified.

Siri's Casino gets firstnod toward opening in downtown Reno
Reno gaming veteran Jeff Siri’s plans for a slots-only casino in downtown Reno proceeded Wednesday with Reno City Council approval of liquor and gaming licenses at the vacant site on Virginia Street across from Harrah’s.
Siri, sole shareholder of the Club Cal Neva at Virginia and Second streets to the south, said his next step is state regulatory approval in November for a 16-slot operation, under the name Siri’s Casino, which he would then open briefly by year’s end to keep gaming rights on the property active.
