eMarketer estimates the number of US mobile phone gamers will reach 125.9 million in 2013. By 2017, that number is expected to grow to 191.3 million. It’s no surprise that the video game industry, including marketers that target their audiences through gaming, now views mobile as a primary platform.

The President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto has issued a decree to amend the federal law of gaming that explicitly bans slot machines and prevents casino license holders from leasing concessions to other operators. Coin-operated video and fair games are still allowed, and the new rules came in effect on Thursday.

The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), has introduced abill [PDF] that directly attacks the business model of "patent trolls." The bill has a real chance at passing, with wide backing from leadership in both parties.
The proposal integrates most of the ideas from earlier patent reform bills introduced by Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and John Cornyn (R-TX), as well as the SHIELD Act introduced by Reps. Pete DeFazio (D-OR) and Jason Chaffetz (R-UT). DeFazio and Chaffetz are co-sponsors, along with several other House members.

If you’re feeling fortunate on your way to or through Indianapolis you might be in luck, as the airport is thinking about adding a few games of chance to the terminals and concourses. Republican State Assemblyman John Amodeo ignited considerable interest at the World Regulatory Briefing in Philadelphia this week when he revealed that he had proposed legislation that would allow internet gambling software and hardware to be located within New Jersey, but outside the boundaries of Atlantic City, creating an opportunity for the Garden State to become an eastern hub for online gambling firms.
Such an arrangement could attract internet and mobile gambling firms to New Jersey as a base for wider operations, bringing capital and jobs to the state, he opined. New Jersey could then sell rights to other states to run their online gaming operations out of the hub.

The state of Pennsylvania is on a roll when it comes to gambling expansion. Already the state has overtaken New Jersey as the second largest gaming market in the US, and now lawmakers have their eyes set on an even bigger prize.
The state Senate passed a bill this week that would authorize bars in Pennsylvania to operate various games of chance in exchange for a piece of the gaming revenue. The Senate passed the bill by a large 39-11 margin.
